My issue with both of these is Skateway at 6:15 is missing nearly 25 seconds of music on both. The original Vertigo is nearly it's equal and I can see why some might prefer it. I also have the original Veritgo Blue Swirl and regardless of it's perceived scarcity it is somewhat bad sounding. Both the original WB and Vertigo masterings are also very nice but the truncated tracks makes them a no go when the SHM-CD is at least their equal in terms of SQ.Ĭommunique - original WB, mine happens to be a "Target". S/T - SHM-CD from 2013/2014 not to be confused with the vile SHM-SACD from 2010. If I remember correctly the Communique SACD mastering isn't the same as the later Platinum mastering? Of course the Platinum SHM masterings made their way to the more affordable standard SHMs. The original On Every Street is great, you have the best one - avoid the remaster at all costs.I probably play the MFSL more, out of habit more than anything else. For Brother in Arms I have the MFSL and the bog standard original.I rotate the Blue Swirl and the SHM Platinum but I find them both to be "edgy". Love over Gold is an interesting one, I need to get my hands on the Japan Target.I stick with the original WB Japan for USA, I've heard the SACD but don't consider it an improvement. IMO Making Movies isn't exactly a great recording and I'd love this to be done better than it has so far.The SHM S/T is probably the warmer of the 3, so it depends on what you are looking for. Yes they all sound slightly different but they're all good and picking a "best" one really depends on the particular track. For the S/T & Communique I rotate through the German Blue Swirl, Japan Target and the SHM Platinum.I have quite a few CD versions for all of the albums apart from Alchemy. As you might guess from my user name I'm a big Dire straits fan.
